Fans of soccer had an Okinawa connection as we cheered on star midfielder Dōan Ritsu in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 who scored 2 goals playing for Team Japan. Ritsu’s grandfather is from Irabu Island but now lives in Osaka. Ritsu currently plays for SC Freiburg.
