Ryukyu Shimpo is reporting that Amuro Namie’s entire catalog of albums, singles, etc. have disappeared from streaming platforms. We checked Apple Music and sure enough, although her page is still there all of her music is gone. In addition to streaming platforms like Apple Music and Spotify, her music videos have also disappeared from YouTube. The reason is likely due to a contract renewal but with whom? The record label (I think she’s still under Avex) and Amuro herself or with the streaming platforms? Or both?
We think what’s most concerning is that her catalog has also disappeared from the iTunes Store which is not a subscription service but supposedly DRM free and something if bought should mean you own it. This is yet another reason that it’s always best to own the music through physical media like CD’s if at all possible. Let’s hope this gets resolved soon and Amuro’s music is available for everyone to enjoy again.
