With the success of the latest short film that was released with English subtitles, the Instagram account for the Okinawa Film Office is going all-out with reposting the other films that are subtitled too. All of these films had their premiere or a screening at the Okinawa International Movie Festival so we’re very lucky that they are now on YouTube. There are a bunch to watch, but we’ll begin with “A Woman Who Acts” (2020) from director Teruya Toshiyuki (also known as Gori of the legendary comedic duo Garage Sale from Okinawa; he also happens to be related to Teruya Rinken of Rinken Band). If you follow Karakui, you know how much we love him and next to Taira Kazuhiro, Toshiyuki is one of the most important film directors from Okinawa. For this short film, Mitsushima Hikari is one of the most highly regarded actresses from Okinawa. She also happens to be the sister of popular actor Mitsushima Shinnosuke and was once a member of the Okinawa idol group Folder5.

By the way, you’ll probably fall in love with the music but without any spoilers, “Kanasando” was composed by Maekawa Shuken and the music for the film was handled by Yonaha Toru. And. Nakada. Masae. Wow. Watch till the end, and you’ll see.
