LINA blogs a picture of MAX
Just to show that yup, they’re still here (what with their last album having been released a zillion years ago, in like 2006), LINA of MAX blogged this picture of them just before a performance. (Btw, she’s quite the blogger.) They still look great — can’t let Amuro take all the thunder — and the…

American Wota 2.0: Market – Stuff For Sale
This looks like a very good idea — especially as an alternative to eBaying stuff — that I may do in the near future. For the Okinawan pop-cutlure connection, you’ll find Amuro VCDs and a Gackt limited edition CD + DVD single on sale among other J-pop goodies. So here’s some stuff I’ve got for…

Second special for “Attention Please” announced – Tokyograph
The 2006 Fuji TV drama series ‘Attention Please’ is returning to television for a second special episode. The series starred Aya Ueto as Yoko Misaki, a young woman training to become a flight attendant. In January of last year, Fuji TV aired the first special, which featured Yoko flying to Honolulu. This time, Yoko will…

Oricon: ideal girlfriend – Tokyograph
Yui Aragaki continues to be that special someone we all want as our girlfriend and Aya Ueto is on the list, albeit a couple of doorsteps down at 7th place. Yukie Nakama didn’t rank this time around but maybe that’ll change once “Gokusen 3” airs. Oricon conducted a special Valentine’s Day survey, asking 500 men…

Aya Ueto to play Japan’s next PM
Okay, the title would’ve been pretty good for an April Fool’s post (yeah, right) but who knows, it may actually become true. (Tune in Twilight Zone music here.) Aya Ueto to star as lawyer in ‘Hokaben’ Really? No. Really? This makes Legally Blonde look like cinema verite by comparison. Read the Tokyograph entry here. (Via…

Tatsuya Shimabukuro’s debut album ‘Tunugi’ hits stores on March 12!
Perhaps the most anticipated CD debut (for Okinawan minyou) of the year is Tatsuya Shimabukuro’s “Tunugi” which is set to be released on March 12. Tatsuya’s “Tunugi” will contain 12 tracks including two that he composed the music for. The reasonably priced ¥2,500 album, from Campus Records’ Tundami label, will also feature the talents of…

Gakky: ‘I don’t need sexy’ wins a 2008 Elan d’or Award
While the majority of our young starlets here in the US love to expose themselves, it’s refreshing to see a soon-to-be hatachi (20 year-old) Gakky (Yui Aragaki) say that she “doesn’t need sexy.” While there may be a few guys out there who may disagree with her, I for one, applaud her decision. (Via Yahoo!…

Album: HY’s 5th album ‘HeartY’
It’s pretty cool to see a band, in this case HY, remain indie and onto their 5th album. “HeartY,” to be released on April 16, follows the album “Confidence” which was released about two years ago. The title of the new album is a play on the H and Y of their group name and…

Best 9 in Okinawa
I hear that there’s going to be a big sports event happening here in the US this Sunday but for baseball fans like me, spring seems so far away. In the case of NPB (Nippon Pro Baseball) though, spring season gets underway this month! Woot! Where do the majority (9 out of 12) of these…
