Higa Manami in Nexflix’s “Japan Sinks: People of Hope”

via Twitter

You can catch actress Higa Manami on the Netflix (in collaboration with TBS) drama “Japan Sinks: People of Hope” currently streaming with new episodes every week (started on 10/10). Manami plays the role of Amami Kaori who starts the series separated from her husband Amami Keishi (played by Oguri Shun who happens to be the husband of Uchinanchu and popular model/actress Yamada Yu). When searching Netflix for the show, be sure not to confuse it with the anime of the similar name (both are based off of the novel “Japan Sinks“).

Kiku TV’s 2021 New Year’s Special Programs (Hawaii)

Although many of us were saddened of Kiku TV’s decision in not picking up the 71st NHK Kouhaku Uta-Gassen, they are showing two special dramas that have actresses from Okinawa featured in them.

The first airs tonight (Saturday, 1/2) and is called The Last Promise (Saigo no Yakusoku) which aired in Japan on January 9, 2010. This special drama stars Kuroki Meisa (2010 is during the height of her popularity and prior to her marriage to Akanishi Jin) as Niimi Yuriko (daughter of the president of Energy Bio Corporation).

The second airs on Wednesday 1/6 and is called Shitto (Jealousy) which aired in Japan on August 16, 2020. This special drama stars Kuninaka Ryoko (of Churasan fame and is married to popular actor Mukai Osamu) as Nagai Fumina.

The original show starred Ueto as rookie detective Sakuragi Izumi, who worked on difficult unsolved cases as part of a Special Investigations Office (based on an actual division established by Japan in 2009). This time takes place half a year later, after Sakuragi has been transferred to a different division that deals with current crimes.

Spring 2011 J-dramas to watch

I haven’t done one of these in a long time so here we go! There are two (maybe more) J-dramas beginning this month for the Spring 2011 season that star actresses from Okinawa.

The first one starts on the 18th is titled “Shiawase ni Narou yo (幸せになろうよ)” and stars Meisa Kuroki in the role of Haruna Yanagisawa.

We’re big fans of Manami Higa and it’s great that she will be reprising her role in “Dondo Bare.” Thinking back, there was another actress who was the star of an NHK morning drama series (“Churasan” anyone?) who reprised her role several times. (Yep, it’s Ryoko Kuninaka.)

In love with Namie Amuro’s “The Meaning Of Us”

Ask me about the song that I’ve been humming a lot of lately and I’ll answer Owl City’s “Fireflies” — not! (*ahem* I’m a fan of The Postal Service.) The song that’s been stuck in my head the past week is Namie Amuro’s “The Meaning Of Us” from her newly released original album, “Past<Future” — Amuro’s first in two years.

The song is being featured as the theme song to the upcoming BeeTV drama “Onnatachi wa Nido Asabu” (the video clip above is from the drama). Unfortunately, the album hasn’t made it for sale on iTunes yet (although many of her other albums are on sale there) and being that her last album, 2008’s “Best Fiction,” isn’t up either (at the U.S. store), you’ll have to go the CD route for this one.
